Beauté Gazette LOVES! Revitanail polishes and nail care

Revitanail 3D Top Coat $14.99, Triple Strength colours Black Plum & Marshmellow $14.99 and Nail Strengthener $29.95 available from www.priceline.com.au

It's all to often I hear someone say 'I'm not wearing nail polish because my nails are in bad condition, so I'm just giving them a break' Revitanail is about to change that! Revitanail nail polish and nail care actually helps your nails from flaking whilst you wear it. So no need to go polish free for the sake of your nail health any longer!
I completely swear by the Revitanail Nail Strengthener as a base coat, it protects bare nails from polish staining and polish damaging your nails and dries in seconds.
It's also refreshing to see such a classic line of polish, which will appeal to trend focused nail polish addicts with the darker plum colours as well as classic colour lovers who will love the nudes.
Having nice healthy groomed nails will always be chic, and should never be put into the 'I just don't have time for them' category especially when there are products like Revitanail in the market place. Try it! You and your nails won't regret it.

Deborah Lippmann's 'Across The Universe' VERSUS Sally Hansen's 'Mermaids Tale'

The word 'dupe' is used quite a lot within the online beauty world and I don't really believe in dupes. If you want to buy a Chanel lipstick then there are many more reasons you are buying it rather than just for the colour i.e packaging, branding, prestige etc. So in this case if you want to splash out and order a Deborah Lippmann nail polish from the states and that's what your into then its totally cool but if you are more likely to pop into Priceline and pick up a bottle of Sally Hansen's 'Mermaids tale' then that's cool too. Both polishes give a very similar finish to your nails, but are quite different in application.
So I am just going to give you the facts:

Deborah Lippmann 'Across The Universe'
Availability: Only online for Australian consumers at www.revolveclothing.com
Price: $19.85each
Application and lasting time: The appearance of the polish in the bottle is deceiving, the glitter is suspended in a sheer jelly base. It takes about 3 and a half coats to become completely opaque on the nail making dry time a real pain, time to put on Benjamin Button or some other really long movie and not touch anything for about 2 and a half hours. Only apply a topcoat to your nails once the polish is dry, otherwise you will move the glitter pieces around and it will look a bit of a mess. Lasting time was ok, but because of how thickly you need to apply the polish it does chip in a 3 to 4 days. I like applying this polish over a navy blue base colour to avoid having to apply so many coats.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 'Mermaids Tale'
Availability: From Priceline stores and www.priceline.com.au
Price: $14.95each
Application and lasting time: Applying this polish is a dream, the Salon Manicure range has very wide brush which fits neatly into your nail bed and requires less stroke to cover your entire nail. It takes 2 coats to achieve an opaque finish on the nail with the glitter applying evenly and not clumping. It definitely needs a topcoat to give the surface an even and glossy look. 'Mermaids Tale' lasted 5 days with minimal chipping which is quite good considering the amount of washing up and champagne drinking I did on the week of wearing the polish.

Beauté Gazette LOVES Orly Nailtrition

Orly Nailtrition $10.95/9ml $19.95/18ml available from www.orlybeauty.com.au

My nails have in a terrible way at the moment... flaky, chipping tearing, thin, weak and discoloured. I have even been going nail polish free to try and get them to a more healthy looking state rather than having gremlin crypt keepers nails.
Then I tried Orly's Nailtrition, it smells different to any other nail strengthener or polish a more medicinal smell - which I am really into. Considering that I enjoy the smell of nail polish because it makes me feel relaxed, its not that weird at all. The formulation is thicker than a regular polish, but is just as fluid and not sticky at all. The finish of Nailtrition reminds me of a french manicure base, slightly pink-toned and with a reflective mirco-shimmer - so basically its not clear. The longevity of it is absolutely incredible, only the box it reads 'remove after one week' after reading that in my head I was thinking 'yeh right, as if it will last that long..give it 2 days' but it totally did! I ended up removing it after 6 days without any chips or any nail catastrophes.
After removing the nail treatment my nails surface texture was smoother and my nails were definitely more healthy looking. The ingredients list collagen, bamboo extract, protein & keratin, I'm not sure how these help your nails but they did and I am going to continue to use Nailtrition on its own and layered under polishes.

Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection by OPI

When I first saw the images for the O.P.I Minnie Mouse collection I almost died of cute a overload, the packaging and marketing behind the collection is beyond adorable.
If you are a massive Disney fan or have a Minnie obsession you are going to love the collection. But if you aren't a super-fan then you're not missing out on much in terms of colours if you pass on this collection. I was given the Mini-Minnie's as a gift from my bestest friend Josephine because we are both totally Minnie Mouse obsessed.
*SIDE NOTE TO OPI* If you are going to put out a ridiculous amount of collections a year, please make them worth while in collecting with new and unique colours not just filler colours with cute packaging.

Here is my colour round up:

Nothin' Mouse 'Bout it : A slightly pink but almost clear polish with a pastel pink micro glitter and matte-pearl-pastel-pink heart glitters. This is the star polish of the collection, it is ok, very cute, but just ok. You can find these types of polishes with heart shaped glitter in china town or cheaper variety stores I'm pretty sure. Also Nothin' Mouse 'Bout it is not available in the mini set, so if you want to try it out you will need to purchase the full size.

I'm All Ears: Unexpectedly is my favourite of all the colours, a pink based jelly red with magenta coloured mirco-glitter jelly consistency. Opaque in 2 coats, a very pretty colour and looks lovely on they nail, very easy to apply and dried the fastest out of all the colours.

If You Moust You Moust: Not a fan of this colour, it applied with loads of streaking and needed 3 coats to become even on the nail. A heavy lilac infused bright pastel pink which on darker skin tones would look beautiful, but on me it looks too barbie-esque. My big problem with this colour is that there isn't anything original or special about it and I have about 10 that are very similar.

The Colour of Minnie: A true apple red with a fine silver micro-shimmer running through the polish, applied like a dream needing only one coat. This is a great polish. and reminds me why OPI are the leaders in the nail game, if only all OPI polishes applied like The Colour of Minnie.

To round up, I am not totally blown away by this collection it was probably the weakest of the year not coming anywhere near the amazing Sky Fall collection which was released most recently. But if you are a die-hard Minnie fan like me you will love how this looks sitting on your dresser or in your bathroom cabinet.

I have had some questions about polish definitions from readers so here are some common terms de-coded for the not so polish obsessed:

Jelly Consistency : When the polish is tined and not opaque, usually you can tell this if you hold the bottle up to light and it will appear more translucent.

Micro-Glitter: A very fine glitter suspended in the polish, usually in a jelly polishes.

Micro-Shimmer: Shimmer running through a polish very fine with no obvious glitter particles. Usually found in an opaque polish to create a sheen or pearl effect to the nail.

Duo-Chrome: A term given to glitter or shimmer that can cast two different colours i.e. blue in some lights and purple in other lights.
