NAIL WEEK!! Day 5 : Nail Trends #sohotrightnow

Bright precisely polished classic nails are back but in a slightly more 90's way, with bright fuschia toned pinks and brick reds trending hard. Simple mono-chrome designs which don't distract too much from an outfit but compliment or contrast as a pop of colour are also popular on the tumblr-sphere.

Gilded Gold nails are HOT HOT HOT right now, from foils and wraps to chrome polishes and a sneaky accent nails. Miley 'put your tounge away' Cyrus started the biggest trend in nails right now with her gold foiled extensions whilst on her Bangerz tour. I am totally into this trend because gold matches with just about everything in my wardrobe, when wearing it your nails feel like they are an extension of your jewelry.

From cute Minnie Mouse tips to tumblr gif's Nail Art is still as popular as ever, and the best thing is that there are designs to match your every outfit and mood. My favourite is the nail piercing trend which Floss Gloss has featured on Instagram recently, but my first memory of nail piercing was when Posh Spice donned one in the late 90's. #poshspice4eva

NAIL WEEK! Day 2 : Half-Moon Nail Art with Mary-Kay Nail Lacquers

Nail Week : Day 2 is all about wearable nail art trends, a favourite staple in the nail art trends over the past few seasons is the Half-Moon design. It is classic and very versatile, by switching the colours you can create different seasonal combos and tonal variations. Ok let's do this!
Mary-Kay Nail Lacquers in Mulberry Forest and Enchanted Mauve $15.00 each available from www.marykay.com.au

If you follow me on instagram @beautegazette you would have seen my rave reviews of the Mary Kay Nail Lacquers, they are phenomenal colours and super fast drying. Combining the soft ballet nude of Enchanted Mauve with the rich Mulberry Forest gives a very polished yet edgy look to the nails and the colour combination is perfect for the cooler winter months. Both of the colours are from Mary Kay's new Fairy Tales and Fantasy collection, which is now available online from their website - gone are the days of waiting for a consultant it is now only a few clicks away.

STEP 1:
Paint your nude base coat 'Enchanted Mauve' is a great base as it has a very quick dry time, which is what you want when you are layering colours for nail art designs.
STEP 2:
Pour out a small pea size amount of 'Mulberry Forrest' on a disposable piece of paper, this is the polish you will use for the half moons.
STEP 3:
Using a small fine tipped craft brush map out the Half-Moon shape in 'Mulberry Forest', outlining the semi circle. Take your time to be neat and precise.
STEP 4:
Fill in the Half- Moon semi circles with polish, this will take 2 coats. Leave the first coat to dry before starting the second coat otherwise it will all gloop together on your nail.
STEP 5:
Once your nails have completely dried, clean up your cuticles with a cotton tip soaked in nail polish remover. Then apply your favourite Topcoat to make your amazing new nails last a little longer and add some mega shine!

MANICURE Monday! Orly Nail Lacquer in 'Pixie Powder'

Orly Nail Lacquer in 'Pixie Powder' $18.95 available from www.orlybeauty.com.au

Orly polishes are one of my favourites, they are so easy to apply and always give a faultless finish no matter what the colour. I decided to go with 'Pixie Powder' from Orly's new Surreal collection, which is the prettiest fine glitter mix and looks like you have dipped your nails into fairy dust. From some angles it gives a translucent gold look to your nails and in direct light it is more of a moonstone pinky-purple. It is the type of polish I would have begged my mum for when I was little, shimmering pretty glittery pinks have always been my weakness and although I don't wear them often they make me so happy when I do.
What's the reason for such ritzy glittery flashy-trashy nails? Oh I am just going to a cocktail party for Jackie Collins at The Star tonight with Theresa from www.theladida.com no big deal....UMMM YES IT IS A MAJOR DEAL!
If you don't know who Joan and Jackie Collins are, well you should get to googling because they are total icons. Hopefully I will able to wrangle a photo with Jackie which would be an incredible instagram WIN.

Manicure MONDAY! New wave clashing glitter.

I have been feeling so wavy lately and so clashing glitter and pastels have been my nail look of choice this week. Instead of placing glitter on the tip or base I decided on a half-moon shape using a tooth pick   to push glitter into place.
'Peach Melba' is the most amazing pastel peach polish which on tanned skin looks completely delicious, my skin is not naturally tanned what so ever but I am faking it with a little gradual tanner. 3 Concepts is a korean brand which is blowing up, they make amazing polishes and cute pop makeup, it is available in Chinatown and online but is for the most part hard to find which makes it all the more special.

3 Concepts Glitter Lacquer $4.95 available from www.stylenanda.com and Kester Black Polish $17.00 available from www.kesterblack.com

Manicure MONDAY! Gold French Tips with Rimmel Brit Manicure in English Rose and Revlon ColorStay in Fall Mood

Rimmel Brit Manicure in English Rose $8.95 and Revlon ColorStay in Fall Mood $16.95 available from www.priceline.com.au

This Monday's manicure was inspired by chipped nails and no time to reapply a whole new nail colour.....So I thought what about I just bang on a contrast tip! Ta-da! After seeing the images of Dior's very golden makeup for the SS14 show on style.com I have been wanting to golden gild everything and anything.....first stop the tips of my nails.
After a weekend of work and being a little ruff on my nails my existing Rimmel Brit Manicure in English rose was looking a little worse for wear, it is my new favourite 'no nail polish' nail polish, transparent with a slight baby pink cast.
My gold of choice was Revlon ColorStay's 'Fall Mood' which is an incredible bronze gold with flecks of red and green only noticeable in direct sunlight. I applied the tips with a fine craft paint brush, dipping the brush directly into the nail polish and carefully mapping out the tip of the nail with the first coat. After that dried I went over the tips again to intensify the gold.
I am glad that my laziness and lack of time can inspire the most creative of manicures!

MANICURE MONDAY! Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Tweedy

Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Tweedy $9.95 available from www.priceline.com.au

Sick of glitter nails? And plain jane flat colour doesn't make you giddy with excitement either? Well Sally Hansen has upped the ante with their new Fuzzy Coat Collection. Coloured streamers suspended in a glossy clear polish, Tweedy jumped out at me because I have been having a monochrome moment this week, the black and white streamers look like TV static fuzz on your nails which sounds weird but it is totally the coolest thing ever.
I applied two coats, leaving the first to completely dry before applying the second so not to make it too clumpy. The polish applies quite thinly compare to a glitter polish because the streamers are so small and light. I did find the finish had a bit too much texture so I applied a thick glossy topcoat after the Fuzzy Coat was completely dried.
Fuzzy Coats from left to right : All Yarned Up, Peach Fuzz, Tight Knit, Fuzz-Sea, Fuzzy Fantasy,
Wool Knot, Wool light and Tweedy.

I like the Fuzzy Coats, applied on their own onto bare nails but you could layer them onto a bright base for a more poppy effect.

Hope you are all enjoying Manicure Monday being back in full effect.....Sorry for the lack of other posts I have been busy over on Oyster doing Beauty Round Ups for the European Fashion weeks, check them out HERE!

NAIL ROCK BY ZOE POCOCK

Wahhh fan girl moment having my nails done by Nail Rock's Zoe Pocock!

I was invited to the Nail Rock Event hosted by Priceline yesterday where Zoe Pocock the creator of Nail Rock was giving manicures... how could I refuse? Nail Rock's are a lacquered sticker which seals to the nail and lasts like a polish would, and come in an amazing range of colours and designs. Zoe is in town for MBFWA (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia) to collaborate with labels Camilla and Marc, Romance Was Born, We are Handsome & Ellery designing nails to coordinate with the collections. Whilst filing and applying my amazing Nail Rock's Zoe and I chatted she told me that the collaborations she was doing with the Australian designers will be released later in the year as collectors box sets, which is very exciting for nail addicts like me.
Zoe had a mix of new season designs and I picked the Quail Jade which is so gorgeous...slight metallic shine with navy and back marbling.

Nail Rock products are now available from Priceline www.priceline.com.au

Now my nails are sorted for Fashion Week I just need to pick out some matching outfits!
Keep reading because there will be a Nail Rock giveaway coming up on Beauté Gazette in the next week.

BYS Glitter for Nails 'Bling it on' Manicure

BYS Glitter for Nails in 'Bling it on'

D.I.V.A nails alert!!! I fell hard for these little Glitter kits, the glitter is very finely milled so there is less risk of it all coming off within the first 24 hours of application and also they are totally affordable.

D.I.Y Glitter for Nails Tutorial:

1. Prep nails buffing and shaping, then apply a good base coat to protect your nails. Manicare's Strengthening Base Coat is fast drying and quite thick which makes it work really well underneath glitter polishes.

2. Apply 2 thin coats of the BYS Gold Polish,

3. Whilst the 2nd coat is still wet and sticky dip the nails you want to be gold glitter sparkle parties into the glitter pot. Take a chill pill and what for your nails to dry, sit tight otherwise you are going to get glitter everywhere!

4. Using the little brush provided in the kit brush away any excess glitter from your nails. Apply a generous top coat to get that glitter to stay put.

BYS Glitter for Nails in 'Bling it On' $7.95 available from www.fashionaddict.com.au

Love a Manicam!

Valentine's Day Nails

1.Kester Black - Fairy Floss 2. China Glaze - Snow 3. Revlon - Tulip 4. Model Co - Lilac Haze
5. Sally Hansen X-Treme - Golden

Happy Valentine's Day sweet beauties!
Last night my boyfriend said that my increasing excitement about Valentine's Day was scary - as if!

This is what's on my nails this February 14th, using a dotting tool I totally went to town on my talons. After I had finished my slightly OTT nail art I topped it off with Revlon's Colorstay Gel-Shine Top Coat....OMG! It is amazing, seriously it glides on and creates the most glossy amazing finish to your nails. Dry time is about 10mins, but once it is dry there is no budging this stuff - total new favourite!

If you are nail-crazy and like all things in the realm of cute follow me on instagram

P.S What's on your nails this Valentine's Day?

NUDE NAILS 5 -WAYS! Featuring Model Co's Nude Attitude.

The perfect nude base Model Co's 'Nude Attitude' $14.95 Available from www.modelco.com.au

HALF-MOON:
A really cute update to a classic design, if you want some subtle work acceptable nail art then half-moons are the way to go. You can match any colour you like back to a nude base, try fluros for a real statement.

GEO-NAIL ART:
Not into cutsie girlie nail art? Try some non conventional geo-patterns instead the variation of patterns is endless so you can have no nail the same. I like mixing a metallic into the pattern to give a bit of depth and shimmer.

BRIGHT TIPS:
THAT image of Nude nails with bright tips has been re-pinned about 750649200 times and then some. But I still love it! Start with your nude base and then pick 5 different brights for the tips, paint on like a regular french tip.

GLITTER BASE:
My favourite new way to apply glitter polish, pour a little bit of glitter polish onto some scrap paper and using a tooth pick dab the glitter into place covering the base completely then becoming more sparse further up the nail.

PERFECTLY POLISHED:
Nude nails are super posh, give yourself a beautiful manicure making sure to push back cuticles to elongate your nails, apply your nude and top with a super glossy top coat. Nude's never go out of fashion and will always be eternally chic!
What is your favourite nude polish? Let me know in the comments below.

BEAUTE GAZETTE loves NAIL ROCK!

NAIL ROCK available from www.asos.com

To say I was sceptical of nail wrap stickers would be an understatement, having a terrible experience with them in Tokyo last year. But I was following the instructions in Japanese and I think maybe I had 5 piña coladas before applying them.
Voicing my hesitations towards nail wraps to friends they had reassured me that the Nail Rock line had lasted on their nails for over a week and were easy as pie to apply.
When doing an ASOS order I picked up these cuties which were a collaboration with Sydney label Romance Was Born, they are on sale for $5.10!! normally $11.40 so naturally I 'added to cart'.
When applying I did have to cut and shape the stickers to the size of my baby nails, if you accidentally stick at the wrong angle it is possible to pull them off and re-stick. It is kind of like covering your books with contact at school, pushing out any air bubbles and sealing the edges of the nails with the mini orange stick. When happy with the placement, you will be left with sticker talons - trim excess and file down the sticker to your nail shape. As a precaution and knowing my ability to chip my nails I applied 2 layers of topcoat.
My expectations were very I low, but to my absolute shock my nails were still in perfect patterned condition 4 days later! Which is longer than I can wear a regular nail polish! These nails had done everything from ocean swimming, lots of washing up and even applied various hair masques.
The collaboration NAIL ROCK designs are limited edition, but new patterns seems to on high rotation on ASOS - I am 'adding to cart' as I type.

DIY Watermelon nails

Watermelon nails have been the most requested of all our designs, they are really cute and scream summertime. Here is the very requested DIY Watermelon Nails guide.

1. Apply a base coat of your favorite red or pink either will do , a fast drying polish is best as you are going to be applying more layers. *Tip: sometimes I do the base coat the night before* Once base is dry, section off the tip of your nail with a white nail art pen - these are really easy to use and help a lot if your not confidant doing a line freehand with a brush. If you have short nails, don't worry just make an imaginary tip approx 2mm from the end of the nail.

2. Using a green nail polish on a very small paint brush, the ones I use are from an art supplies store so it doesn't have to be a special. Fill in the tip sectioned off buy the white line.

3. To create the seeds of the watermelon take a nail pen and carefully draw little strokes in a cute formation.

4. Wait at lease 30-40mins to dry and then apply your favorite topcoat.  Topcoat will glamorise even the dodgiest nail art. TRUST ME. Applying a topcoat is the equivalent of flattening an image in Photoshop it just makes everything look pretty and shiny.

TA-DA! How easy was that! Can you believe it?

Please let me know if you have any other nail art design requests?  Either pop a comment down below or email beautegazette@gmail.com or on the Beauté Gazette Facebook page HERE!

Also if you LOVE this nail tutorial and live in Sydney please come on down the the WONDER 100 Fete this weekend I will be there with nail club NPAA doing amazing mani's! All of the money we make will be going to The Boys and Girls Brigade which run very cool programs for kids and young people helping them make positive life decisions.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Get Nailed with USLU at People

Back in the day it was a ladylike tradition to go to the beauty salon and have your hair blowed out and your nails done, think Dolly Parton and Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias. It was multi-tasking at its best (and girls love to multi-task!) a place where women could talk, gossip and hang out all while having there chosen beauty treatments done. What happened to this tradition? We want it back!
Yesterday I visited People on Crown st, Surry Hills it was a modern day beauty temple. Even though it was 11am on a Tuesday morning women were getting their highlights done, a quick blow dry and few cheeky eyebrow tints. I was there for NAILS! 'Get Nailed' is the chic and colourful nail bar at People exclusively stocked with Uslu polishes and the sweet and very talented Nail Artist Cathy Hart. We chatted as I picked out the colours and designs I wanted, Cathy told me how girls are coming in for special occasions to get nail art done, for her 21st birthday a girl wanted ying-yang's and smiley faces. Marbling was taking off as the next big thing and designs have been requested from images found on pinterest but if you just wanted a posh file and polish whilst having your colour done- that was cool too. Finally I decided on some 'stoner eyes' 'popart accents' and 'beatle wing glitter', this took me a while because the options were endless.
Uslu a Berlin based luxury cosmetics brand provides a sleek selection of colours, featuring collaborations with Bernhard Willhelm, Colette and Nike. The appeal of Uslu goes beyond the amazing selection of colours - the polishes are 5 FREE! Free of Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate,Toluene, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor. Which means they are pregnancy friendly and are suited for sensitive skin.
It was getting to the end of my amazing manicure and I was enjoying myself so much, chatting to ladies in the salon about their highlights and Cathy and the girls I almost didn't want that topcoat to go on.
People is everything a beauty salon should be, a place where you can have your hair, nails and eyebrows done with your friends enjoy a cup of tea or even a glass of champagne if you have some really juicy gossip to share and escape from everything else in life for a couple of hours.

I love it so much and I will go back over and over again with my friends, so expect more spectacular nail posts.

DIY : Egyptian Lover Nails

My friend Alyssa came over for a hang out yesterday and naturally we did our nails, she wanted evil eyes like Alexa Chung the hipster nail art reigning heavy weight queen. Could I ever!

1. After applying a base coat and letting it dry completely. Draw almond shapes on your nails with a white nail pen. Let dry.

2. Are you a brown eyed girl? Or blue eyed beauty? Using a super dooper fine brush paint a small circle in the center of the almond shape as the pupils. Let Dry.

3. Outline the almond shape with a black nail pen.

4. Now its starting to look a little creepy. Draw a dot in the center of the pupil with the black nail pen - press very lightly because the polish underneath wont be completely dry.

5. OMG EYELASHES!

TA-DA!
